The unprecedented impact of digital media on evangelism in our COVID19 pandemic era! A call for involvement.

It is undoubtedly the most vexing period of mankind globally in reflection to our connection to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Just like a thief in the night, the human race was obliviously attacked by an invisible but very disastrous calamity, the Corona Virus, leading to implementation of abrupt precautionary measures all in the name of curbing it down!

In a period of less the 4 months, hundreds of thousands of lives have been claimed but mostly in nations proved to have the best of medical care facilities. This has left the entire world with a few or no options on how to deal with this monster the COVID19, hence the result of mandatory quarantines and curfews leading to ban on travel, work and eventually total shutdown down of nations which has left mankind perplexed!

The only hope for the redemption of mankind is GOD! But as a result, even the only source of hope left where we could interact with our Savoir, the places of worship (Church), have also fallen prey of the ban resulting from the COVID19. Most religious institutions internationally have embraced the gigantic vitality of involvement of Digital Media; Social media, Radio broadcast, Television broadcast, teleconferencing etc. during this period to as to stay connected with the faithful.

The Power of digital Media in transmission !!

In the context of Orthodox Christianity, Church history indicates the many challenges curfews faced by the Holy Fathers where in many cases they were barred from gathering for worship or even conduct holy liturgy! But we are blessed that we have various means in which we can virtually continue taking part in Mysteries of the church virtually, thanks to technology!

As noted in the previous publication from the interview on Metropolitan Innocentios Byakatonda of the Metropolis of Rwanda and Burundi during his interview on a radio station in Romania in August 2019, he maintained the immense difficulties faced by the orthodox mission in Africa in regards to the involvement of digital media in evangelism due to limited resources and funds dating back from the initial founding/discovery times of Orthodoxy into the African continent.

On this note, therefore, during this Great Lent as we approach the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the redemption of mankind from sin, we call upon for assistance from all in capacity to help, so that we can gather a few equipments to enable the broadcast and record the proceedings of the Holy Week and the days after to the local and international views who are in chains of this virus but would love to follow the services as they are conducted by the few clergies at the cathedral.

Let us all join in prayer during this period, for all those that sleep hungry because they cannot get anything to eat because of the COVID19 quarantine, the sick and the departed. Let’s continue to fast and repent of our acts that have led to this pandemic so that our Lord and savior may Have Mercy on us and this pandemic is eradicated.

Through the prayers of our holy fathers, Lord Jesus Christ son of God have Mercy on us and save us! Amen!
