Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church – Degeya.
This is the main cathedral of the Luwero, Nakasongola Deanery and it’s located in Luweero District, Bulemeezi County, Kalagala sub county, Degeya village, Bombo-Kalagala Road 4 kms. It was started in 1922 by the Pionneers Group; Late Bishiop Spartas Ssebbanja Mukasa, Late Rev. Obadhia Basajjakitalo, Late Fr. Magimbi Ireneos and it is the first African Orthodox parish down the Sahara. Other Revs.who have served this parish are Late Rev. Seryazi Nicholas, Late Rev. Nsubuga Patrick, Late Rev. Kizza Markarios, Late Rev. Ssemakula Constatine, and Rev. John Kibuuka Bbosa – the present parish priest. Many things have been done in his time like constructing another bigger church, donation from people of Greece, it has another permanent church which was the first with thousands of parishioners and continuous catechesis.
