Biblical Readings (2 Cor 6:1-10, Mt 6:22-33)
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your living, what will you eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air. They do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more cloth you- you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying: what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or what shall we wear? 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.
In these days, most of the people think that, they exist in the world to accumulate material, not spiritual wealth, and can sacrifice others, their neighbors, simply for the material gains. (Mt 19:19, 22,39). However, according to the Master Jesus Christ, all persons carefully who attend to their inner enlightenment (consciousness of soul), by the Spirit of God, ought to behave not as most of the people practice, who do not obey the voice of God in them.
Last week we mentioned about that inner light, within human beings (Ro 2: 15), which is named conscience or consciousness in the English language. Bufumintiriza in Luganda. This inner light is spiritual from God, not physical light (Mt 6:23). People who are illumined by this light live while their spiritual eyes are seeing and assessing all things spiritually.
And through this light, we ought not to place money above all, in the position of God. For, it is God above all, who furnishes to us all things, which assist the process of our life. Even our free will or freedom of will, and the reasonability of us as persons through the conscience, all these gifts are provided to us by God (Php 2:13).
In addition to all these gifts our God, the Father sent us His Son the Word, Jesus Christ, in order to save us from all our disobedience and sinful ways of assessing things in our life. Humans, wherever they are, to assess things in the spiritual way is possible only by the gifts from God (grace), and especially by the light of consciousness and godliness, of which the roots are planted in the image and likeness by creation.
