His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa arrived at Entebbe International Airport today’s afternoon. His Beatitude was honorably welcomed by Metropolitan Jeronymos of Kampala, Bishop Nectarios of Gulu, Bishop Silvester of Jinja, Titular Metropolitan Innocentios of Sozusa, His Excellency Mr. Monzer Selim the Egyptian Ambassador to Uganda, leader of Eritrean Orthodox Church in Uganda Rev. Samuel Tsagay, Orthodox legislators Hon. Theodore Ssekikubo and Helen Nakimuli, a number of priests from the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and many faithful.
The Judge of the World was received at the VIP reception lounge after where he addressed the local media. In his address, Patriarch expressed his joy for coming to the Pearl of Africa. He said that Uganda is the heart of Orthodox missions in Africa and thanked the Ugandan hierarchs for their commitment and dedication in carrying on the work of their predecessors, Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, Metropolitan Theodoros Nankyama and Bishop Christophoros Ssebbanja Sparta.
On his three-day pastoral visit to Uganda, the Prelate of Prelates will visit and celebrate the Divine Liturgy at St. George and Andrew Lwemiyaga (Holy Metropolis of Kampala) tomorrow, 19 February, visit Gulu and Jinja Dioceses before proceeding to South Sudan on 21 February 2025.
